The Piano 4D videos explore the structure of great compositions using light and color. 3D particle simulators generate a dynamic visualization of the musical structure that is seamlessly combined with the original performance. Particles on the surface of the piano provide a precise representation of individual notes, while the background particles respond fluidly to the amplitude and complexity of the musical texture.
Each of the twelve pitches is assigned a single color for the duration of each movement. This makes it possible to observe a return to the home key, or a chromatic shift in the harmony. The colors are chosen based on the performer’s synesthetic vision of the piece.
Each video also provides the opportunity to take a visual journey through the accompanying work of fine art, which is created using the same musical performance and colors.
